Freezing night, glowing heart

Poem by Karin Boye living 1900 – 1941, my translation for private use only

I gladly stand here and freeze at a street below
for to see those two windows at a gable glow.
The one who lives in there is to me very dear.
I get sick in my heart, when it shines there.

I want to go to the corner, I want slowly return
so I might can get a glimpse of you, that I yearn
That you are so close… Why am I standing here?
I get sick in my heart, when it shines there.

(from the  poetry collection Härdarna 1927)
