A beautiful October day

October sun and blue sky, country road
and my cycle wheels silent spin, golden
leaves on trees and ground and a scent
of pine and forest. I’m on my way home
from the bird lake with its cacophony
of screaming waterfowl. But now my
heart’s melancholy humming adds a
low tune over my ride and prevents me
from fully enjoy the day and be where
I am.  As if to be one, is to be none.  But
a beautiful day – is still a beautiful day,
that’s what I vainly try to tell  myself.
